Description

There are sequels, and then there are sequels. If someone approached you in the pub or in the street and asked you what sprung to mind when somebody mentioned 3DO on PlayStation, the most likely response would be as follows. Army Men, Army Men, and Army Men. There are currently at least ten Army Men games available to buy, and joining the 3DO library for 2000 is Army Men: Land, Sea, Air, not surprisingly on PlayStation. If I had to tell you what was new about Land, Sea, Air, or what made this game different from the rest, I would be hard pushed for an answer. Once again the Tan Army is on the offensive, and it's up to you, once again, to make sure they're defeated once more, and hopefully for the last time. As the title suggests, missions of the game take place on land, sea and air. This variety in game-play gives players what is ultimately a three-games-in-one experience. Each mission naturally involves an objective that must be fulfilled in order to progress. Some involve navigating your way through enemy infested forests, while others consist of offensive missions and rescue missions. The control system is a little awkward and takes a while to get used to. Once you feel comfortable manoeuvring through the games levels, Land, Sea, Air shouldn't pose too much of a challenge. Experienced players of Army Men titles aren't missing anything here, but if you're a newcomer to the series, you will find this instalment enjoyable enough. As for veteran Army Men players, roll on Land, Sea, Air 2 - its appearance sometime in the future is almost inevitable.
